As the year gradually progresses, as usual most people forget their new year resolutions not to go to clubs, drink beyond their limits or spend that salary on a night out. With the Easter holidays just around the corner, it is predicted that there will be an overly increase in club goers for obvious reasons.
That said, the clubs worth dressing up for and visiting during there periods aren’t always the easiest to get into. As we gradually step into the middle of the year, into periods where parties are allowed, where fun is mandatory and people just love to club especially in Lagos.
Being stopped by the door of a club is no fun, especially when you are geared up to party the night away. It really is as good a time as any to share our nightlife wisdom (culled from years of going out, attending exclusive parties and clubbing with the who is who in the Nigerian Nightlife Industry.) . And so, we offer this list of tips to get past the big men in black (bouncers) whose sole purpose is to keep you in line… and throw you out if you get out of line once inside.
Make friends with the DJ or the Bouncers.
Most DJs have their own guest lists and if you support them, they are more likely to support you but by all means if the Dj doesn’t help, try being friends with the bouncer.
Reserve a Table
The easiest way to get past the bouncers and ahead of the raging riff raff is to pay for it. In general, reserving a table is a really great way to get past the crowd in the club, avoid getting stopped at the door.
Come Early
Non-VIPs can’t afford to be fashionably late and sometimes nobody can. A way to avoid the headache is to arrive early. Sitting in an empty club for a bit beats standing outside while it fills up.
Pay your way through
Though most bouncers aren’t supposed to accept cash bribes for entry, some do. But if you try, don’t embarrass yourself by flashing the cash.
Be a girl (or be with girls)
Straight up, females always have a better chance than males getting in a club. A plain Jane even has a better chance than a handsome chap. This is because many establishments, hosts and promoters employ ratio rules (in Lagos from experience, two girls for every guy is pretty standard, sometimes it’s even 3 to 1).
Be cool — but not too cool
More accurately, be nice. Chill. Smile. Be confident. NEVER give them the “I know so so and so” line, or worse, the “Do you know who I am” line. If you do know somebody that might be able to you get in, by all means text or call them to help you out .
Again from having visited several clubs and gathering relevant experience, If you employ just a couple tips from above and try to be patient you will get past the bouncer and be bouncing the night away sooner than you think.
