Legendary South African jazz King Hugh Masakela is dead. Hugh Masekela lit up the South African nights with his music from the 60s to the 90s.
He will be greatly missed.
Fondly called the father of South African jazz music, he died after an unsuccessful battle against prostate cancer.
He was 78 years old.
The musician’s team released a statement in October last year saying Hugh Masekela had been battling prostate cancer since 2008.
Hugh Masekela had a career that spanned over five decades. He first gained international recognition with his Afro-jazz hit ‘Soweto Blues’.
