Music kings from West Africa will be bidding it out for the biggest music awards in Africa. Since West Africa currently has the biggest hitmakers in Africa, we can assume that this category of award will be the biggest of the night.
The world-class event will be held on the 10th -12 November with the Africa Music Business Roundtable (November 10, 8AM) at the Ballroom, Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, The AFRIMA Music Village (November 10, 4PM), at the Waterfront, Bar Beach, Victoria Island, Lagos by 4PM and the Main Awards Ceremony (November 12, 6PM) at the Convention Centre, Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos.
The nominated artistes in the Best Male Artiste in West Africa category are:
Davido
Real name Davido Adeleke, the Dami Duro crooner has been on a steady rise for more than seven years. With hits like ‘Aye’ and ‘If’. His smash single ‘Fall’ has thrust him into this category this year.
DJ Arafat (Ivory Coast)
The 31 year old ex-disc jockey from Ivory Coast has stayed consistent since 2003 when he released his first album. His song ‘Agbagnam’ has put him up for nomination this year for best Male Artiste in West Africa. Think he will win?
Runtown (Nigeria)
Real name Douglas Jack agu, Runtown was born on the 19th of August 1989. He first came into limelight for his hit single when he collaborated with Davido on his song “Gallardo” This song brought him to limelight and got him more fame. He however has gotten more attention with his hit single ‘Mad Over You’ which got to number 8 on the international billboard. The same song has gotten him this nomination.
Sarkodie (Ghana)
Michael Owusu Addo, known by his stage name Sarkodie, is a Ghanaian hip hop recording artist and entrepreneur from Tema.[2] He won the Best International Act: Africa category at the 2012 BET Awards and has stayed on the rise. He is currently the biggest artiste from Ghana in recent times. He has been nominated for his latest hit single ‘Painkiller’.
Tekno (Nigeria)
The self styled Slim Daddy and real name Augustine Miles Kelechi Tekno breaks through into this nomination for his song ‘Rara’.
Wizkid (Nigeria)
Arguable the biggest Afrobeat artiste in the world at the moment, Wizkid’s rise to international fame has been nothing short of phenomenal. His song ‘Come Closer’ feat. Drake has won international accolades and its been nominated for this award category.
Mr Eazi (Nigeria)
Oluwatosin Oluwole Ajibade (born 19 July 1991) better known by his stage name Mr Eazi, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and entreprenuer. He broke into limelight in 2015 with his song ‘Skintight’. He has been nominated for this years AFRIMA Awards with the song ‘Leg Over’.
Ycee (Nigeria)
Ycee broke into the music scene with his song ‘Jagaban’ in 2015. In 2017 he teamed up with Uk’s Afrobeat producer to create club favourite ‘Juice’. This collabo has been nominated for the AFRIMA award this year.
MHD (Guinea)
Mohamed Sylla was born on the 10th of September 1994. He is better known by his stage name MHD. The French rapper is from the 19th arrondissement of Paris. His Afrotrap hit single ‘La Puissance’ has been nominated for this year’s AFRIMA for Best West African Artiste for 2017.
