Dangerous Places You Can Find Yourself At Night In Lagos

Lagos is not always pretty at night.

If you live in Lagos, you can testify that Lagos does is very intimidating during the day but it does have a different feel at night. Depending on where you are, the night covers the ugliness and the bright lights shows you a different city entirely.

However, I’d like to show you some places in Lagos where you should become very security conscious.

Some of these areas are blind spots with little or no security personnel around to guarantee your safety.  See the areas below:

Oshodi (Under Bridge):

Someone once said concerning Oshodi on twitter. ‘If you ever get lost in Lagos, find your way to Oshodi. You will find a bus going to Jerusalem there’.

Oshodi is the middle of Lagos and practically leads everywhere on the Mainland and the Island.

The nights here however are a totally different story. They are ugly.

The influx of human traffic as people throng from work makes this place very dangerous. It gets worse as it gets darker and the urchins and touts take over. Your pockets can be picked and your bag snatched from you. Also beware of anyone offering unnecessary help.

Third Mainland Bridge

This the longest bridge in Africa. You spend an average of 15 minutes to drive from one end to another. The real nightmare here is to have your car breakdown here at night as a result of flat tire or engine failure. Bizzare and gory stories have been shared by people who have been unlucky to have had this experience. Cases include robbery to ritual killings.

If you are in a vehicle and this happens, take your phone out and call the Lagos State Emergency Agency (LASEMA) number. See these numbers below.

Phone Numbers: 08060907333 OR 08023127654

As a backup plan, call a friend or a family member who you know can send help or drive over immediately. Next step is to get all your valuables out and lock them up in the boot of your car pending when help arrives.

Ile Zik

This place has been one of the most dangerous places at night in Lagos in the last five years. Located in the ever busy Lagos-Abeokuta expressway, efforts by residence in the area to get security agents to carry out a sweep of the area had proved abortive.

Few months ago, Ile Zik was in the news when residents in the area meted jungle justice out on two men who they suspected to be ritualists. This clearly shows how dangerous this area is and we advise readers to avoid this area at night.
