Originally known as Armand de Brignac, the premium champagne got its name “Ace of Spades” from its logo which is the same as the symbol on the popular deck of playing card. No doubts that champagne is a drink of celebration and is mostly seen in the midst of Lagos biggest socialites, big boys and only a special few, a bottle is said to cost a whopping N300,000 in most top Lagos clubs.
The champagne which is partly owned by Hip hop legend Jay Z is said to have catapulted to fame in 2006 after a video was released where Jay Z in the said video, was seen to refuse a bottle of Cristal before accepting the lavish gold Armand de Brignac bottle presented in a silver case.
A Brief Story about the brand.
Armand de Brignac is the brainchild of the Cattier house, located in the Champagne village of Chigny-les-Roses, and the New York drinks distribution company Sovereign Brands. The Cattier family have been growing grapes in the Montagne de Reims area since 1763, and have made Champagne since 1918. The house is still family owned and run by Jean-Jacques Cattier and his son Alexandre, both respected winemakers.
According to Jean-Jacques Cattier, Armand de Brignac aims “to present something luxurious and which does justice to the once-in-a-lifetime events at which the Champagne is poped.”
How to drink Ace of Spades Champagne
For every premium drink, there is definitely a set way to go about drinking it, and same goes for Ace of Spades. The Cattier Champagne house manufacturers of the drink recommends a serving temperature of 6–8°C, achieved by placing the bottle in the refrigerator the night before or in an ice bucket for half an hour. Use a flute or tulip-shaped glass (never a broad-rimmed glass) and ensure it is no more than two-thirds full.
A useful tip: make sure the glass has no remaining trace of any washing-up products, or the Champagne will lose its effervescence.
If you have so much time, start by looking at the wine, says the Cattier experts, “then bring the flute up to your nose and breathe in slowly to perceive the scents and aromas. Finally, take a sip and keep it in your mouth for a few moments to discover the Champagne’s personality.
