Contrary to what everyone thinks Eko Hotel is one of the most affordable place to hang out for your meeting or just walk in for drinks.
Last week I was invited by an expatriate friend of mine to come meet up at the hotel. The meeting was scheduled for 6pm. I left the office by 5pm hoping to get there before 6pm and avoid any form of delay by the infamous Lekki-Epe traffic.
I got there by 6pm on the dot. Called up my host who told me something came up. He rescheduled the meet for 7pm. Told me to wait up by the bar and get a drink. On him of course.
I was a bit skeptical at that point.
This was Eko Hotel. Duhhh!
What if I took a drink and my host didn’t show up to pay? I was just carrying enough to Uber me back home and I didn’t want to risk anything.
So I just sat by the bar ordering nothing.
You can trust those nosey waiters who won’t mind their business. One of them sauntered over with the brightest smile on her face and asked if she could take my order. She probably said it too loud as a group of girls drinking cocktails and chapman all turned to stare at me as if to see what I was going to order.
I was not going to ‘fall my hand’ in front of those fine chicks so I dared to ask for the menu.
The girls kept staring.
At this point I had created my own Eko Hotel menu in my head where 1 bottle of Heineken Lager was N5, 000 and one bottle of Red wine N90,000.
After all this was Eko Hotel. Where all the international celebrities who visit Nigeria stayed!
I was handed the menu and the prices I saw shook me. Mumu no good!
With joy I ordered for a bottle of cold beer. I was suddenly thirsty and the beer was all I needed to heal my parched throat.
Lo and behold, a bottle of my favorite beer brand Gulder was N1500.
I could afford that.
This price was double the price at some hangouts in VI and Lekki. I promptly ordered. My host came down just after my second bottle.
