While fun seeking may not usually be the main reason for travelling, many people are often looking to party when they are in a new city. And why the hell not? You’re only in a place for a few nights, you want to experience everything a city has to offer, including the nightlife, right?
You can of course have a great time drinking in bars around your hotel(if you happen to be lodging) or your vicinity if you crashing at a friend’s apartment but how do you find the happening local parties? And how do you make sure you don’t miss out on the best of the city’s nightlife?
To help out you party-loving travelers, here are a few (free) tips and tricks to help you find and nail the best parties whenever you go traveling:
Event apps and websites
Lagos is not just a known for it’s bubbling nightlife but recently is fast becoming one of Africa’s biggest Tech/ innovation hubs. Currently there are a few apps and websites that can help you find the best parties, shows and events happening near you. Best of all, these apps are not restricted to just Lagos as the help you discover the hottest shows wherever you go within Nigeria.
Ask friends who have recently visited the city you intend going
If you are reading this article then its safe to assume you aren’t boring and probably have a few friends on Facebook.
When you think of visiting a new city, i bet the chances are at least some of your friends have visited, lived (or even partied) there. A simple way to find these friends is to search for the city you intend visiting in the standard search dialogue box on Facebook, e.g. search for ‘Lagos Nigeria’.
Click on the main ‘City’ which shows up in the results. Scroll down the city page and can see: ‘All your friends who have visited Lagos: Were there, Have worked, lived or From there.’ Chat with these people and ask for their insider tips – the chances are at least one of them can give you advice on the best places to party, or introduce you to friends who still live there that can.
Party with a Local
I’m a bit biased here, but who is it that usually knows the best parties going on anywhere, on any given night? The locals. Same with the Facbook example above, once you search for friends who has been to a particular city,
feel free to ask for a few recommendations from your friends or possibly asked to be introduced to their friends who still live in the city and can be trusted to show you around. Based on the trust factor, i strongly recommend asking your friend to vet whom ever they recommend, look up the said person’s profile and if possible make sure to hangout with them during the day first before thinking of a night out.
Research before you go
Blogs like Nightlife.ng is a great source for finding the best nightlife spots across the country. Before heading out, an advice able move would be to search through the Nightlife blog for the biggest, hottest and trending clubs within the particular city you plan on visiting. Best of all, you sure can see places categorized based on budget,
clubs that operates based on certain days of the week.
Follow Trending spots/ Influencers on Instagram
One hack that almost always works for me and a few friends to whom i have recommended it to is to follow trending spots and Influencers on Instagram. Instagram is fast becoming just a social media to share your photos and feel cool with friends. Most clubs, nightlife spots and party planners now uses Instagram as a tool to spread word about their shows and club activities. Most even go as far as paying Instagram influencers (people with a huge number of followers) a fee to post about their events. Simply find the best clubs and influencers, follow them and turn on post notification this way you get their latest posts and fun announcements.
