Headies Awards Moved to March 24th 2018

The Headies have been moved back to March next year. You will remember the Awards was moved to the last quarter of the year by the organizers last year. At that point no official reasons were given by the move.

The year in review will now be January to December of each year. The 2017 edition of the awards will be held on March 24, 2018.

Speaking to the founder of Hip TV, Ayo Animashaun he said “We want our nominees, artistes, entertainment industry practitioners and enthusiasts’ to have an amazing time and we want music fans to have even more fun,”

“This is why we have taken every decision, from the new date, choice of venue, categories, and so on.”

The HipTV founder  also said four new categories will be added in order to reflect the realities of the ever-evolving music and entertainment industry.

The four new categories are:

  • Headies viewer’s choice.
  • Industry brand supporter.
  • Best performer
  • Best songwriter of the year.

“The viewers’ choice prize will give full power to fans through a voting system that lets them decide absolutely; the brand supporter award will recognise brands who are supporting the industry at a time when opportunities are scarce; the best performer will reward the Artistes whose stagecraft, showmanship and performance routines are exceptionally conceptualized and executed; while the best songwriter finally brings to the forefront the talents who compose the lyrics and melodies for the songs we celebrate.”

The inclusion of the ‘Best Writer of The Year Category’ has received positive receptions from the music quarters as it will help people recognize songwriters.

The Headies now has 24 categories,
