While clubbing or partying is an amazing fun thing to do, it goes beyond the surface as to just having fun, it is brings with it an opportunity to meet new people, grab drinks and drown some of the day’s stress on the dance floor.

It’s a sad fact that not everyone in a nightclub is there to party, With events of the past few months, a lot of attention has been given to the issue of safety in nightclubs.
From Celebrity fights to the latest Las Vegas Nightclub shooting and news of attacks here and there.

Staying safe in a nightclub is a matter of planning and a little commonsense. Here are a few tips to help you dance the night away safely.

Don’t go alone

Ever heard the saying there is strength in numbers? Well, this is definitely true. While the first best tip to have a safe night would be to stay in doors and cuddle your bed.
For most of us this isn’t just an option. To me that sounds like a Doctor advising to abstain from sex(who does that) Go with friends and keep track of each-other through the night. If you are going to the restroom or to check out another room, tell your friends. It’s a good idea to check up on everyone every now and then and make sure that you know where everyone is and that everyone is OK (i.e. not passed out in a corner).

Find your exits

When you go into a club, have a quick walk around and locate the emergency exits. Should a fire or other disaster occur, people will crowd for the front door. If you can slip out a back exit, you’ll avoid the mob and get out more quickly. However, do keep in mind that just because a sign points to an exit doesn’t mean that the exit will actually be there or that it will open. Upon arrival, make sure to eye scan and test exits, making this a habit may someday save your life.

Key an eye on your drinks at all time

Even if you run to the ladies room, have a friend hold on to your drink for you. Most club drugs are easy to drop into drinks and are colorless, odorless and tasteless so you won’t even realize if at all anything gets slipped into your drink until it hits you. Drink out of bottles if possible(not so recommended though), or hold your drink in front of you.

Plan on drinking water.

While water may be as expensive as beer in some clubs water is much more important especially if you’ve been drinking for a while or if you’re experimenting with the darker side of the club atmosphere.
Dehydration caused by much alchol or use of drugs is not uncommon, and water also helps your body control its heating a cooling systems.

Figure out your transportation ahead of time.

Don’t leave it up to maybe’s, especially if your location is out of the way. Have a Cab guy’s number in your cell phone, while Uber works fine, i highly recommend not to soley rely on Uber as there may be a surge on the platform or possibly a network downtime.
Never accept rides from strangers— no matter how elementary that sounds, and never give rides to strangers. People wear a lot of faces at night especially in Lagos.

Party smart and listen your intuition.

If a situation feels wrong or you’re not feeling the vibe, check out and try something else or go home. There will always be another night and wasting your money at a place where all you either aren’t feeling the vibe or just not comfortable makes no sense.

All said, do not be afraid to go clubbing! Some people will have you believe that clubbing is unsafe, but it only is if you’re unprepared. By following the simple steps outlined above and employing a little common sense you’ll have a blast, meet tons of great people looking to have fun and, of course, have the opportunity to listen to great dance music.
