Hookah lovers! This is for you.

Shisha smoking is the new cool at the clubs these days. Back in the day it was  just  the alcohol. These days, some folks go to the club  just to smoke shisha.

Shisha is a way of smoking tobacco, sometimes mixed with fruit or molasses sugar, through a bowl and hose or tube. It comes with different fragrances too. From the popular ‘mint flavour’ to ‘Sex on The Beach’.

However, we thought it best to let you know the different disadvantages of shisha smoking.

Disadvantages

  1. Risk of Infectious Disease

While hookah smoking does not create a cold or virus, it can aid in passing them around. Dentists suggests that the ritual of passing the hose from person to person in social  settings such as clubs or lounges puts people at a higher risk for infectious illnesses and even diseases like cold or oral herpes. This risk can be minimized by using disposable plastic hookah tips.

  1. Cancer and other Respiratory Diseases.

Traditionally shisha tobacco contains cigarette tobacco, so like cigarettes it contains nicotine, tar, carbon monoxide and heavy metals, such as arsenic and lead. As a result, shisha smokers are at risk of the same kinds of diseases as cigarette smokers, such as heart disease, cancer, respiratory disease and problems during pregnancy.

  1. Toxins

When you smoke shisha, you and anyone sitting near you are breathing in smoke which releases toxins including carbon monoxide and heavy metals –reducing your body’s ability to carry oxygen around in your blood. Okay I know this comes as a big surprise to you.

  1. Chronic Addiction

Some people mistakenly think that shisha smoking is not addictive because the water used in the pipe can absorb nicotine. In reality, because only some of the nicotine is absorbed by the water, shisha smokers are still exposed to enough nicotine to cause an addiction. So watch it guys.

  1. Lowers Your Vitamin C Level

Smoking shisha lowers your vitamin C level. A research was done after antioxidant capacity was evaluated by collection of two overnight blood samples. Results indicated that total antioxidant capacity and vitamin C levels were lower in smokers than in non-smokers.

  1. Oral effects

Shisha smoking has many negative effects on mouth including staining of teeth, dental restorations and reduced ability of smell and taste.
