In the early hours of April 1 2017, Kieran Roberts a convicted criminal punched to death 27 year old Nigerian footballer Esinkumo Ayabowei few blocks away from a popular Northern Wales Nightclub.
Mr Ayabowei who until his death was originally from Nigeria but resident in Wales had just excited the Peep Nightclub when without warning or provocation got punched by Roberts who according to reports was drunk and blood thirsty at the same time.
The punch shattered Mr Ayabowei’s jaw and knocked him unconscious, he suffered a fractured skull when his head hit the floor.
Mr Ayabowei, a dad-of-two, never regained consciousness and died despite efforts to save him at the scene and in the hospital, the Daily Post reports.
During a hearing last Wednesday a police officer read an emotional victim personal statement written by Mr Ayabowei’s widow, Melicia Gerrard.
She said her husband of nearly six years had high hopes for the future, both personally and professionally, but these had been taken away in a “senseless violent act committed by a dangerous thug”.
The court heard Roberts was released from prison shortly before the attack and had boasted about his release, saying he was “going to bang someone out tonight.
Roberts, who all through his hearing showed little or no remorse was sentenced to 6 years and nine months with an extended licence period of five years.
