5 Tips on How NOT to Overspend at the Club

It’s not uncommon for people to spend so much on drinks in one night at the clubs or hangouts but let’s face it – partying is just a necessary part to ease off a stressful week and drinks aren’t getting any cheaper. This inevitably leaves you with less money to pay some other bills but don’t despair – there are ways you can make your nights out cheaper.

I have been able to come up with some tips on how to save money while clubbing.

1. Have pre-drinks

If you’re going to go out drinking it makes sense to start your night at home. The theory here is that you won’t need to buy as many drinks whilst you’re out, which can often be five or even six times the price.

You probably know by now that it’s much cheaper to buy supermarket own-brand products, and you won’t even notice the difference between these and well-known brands (apart from the price).

A bottle of Hennessy vsop will set you back around 17000 naira, but the same Hennessy is sold for as high as 40000, Really.

2.   Stock up on carbs in advance

Before hitting the tiles, make sure you eat a proper meal, preferably packed with carbs, so you don’t need to pig out on expensive take away food later. It’s always a bad idea to drink on an empty stomach anyway, so eat up or have them pre-prepared for your return. If you can’t face a night out without a carb-filled treat at the end, then have some munchies prepared for when you get home.  No one wants to be that dude setting off the fire alarm making food at 3am, so have your food pre-cooked and ready to eat.

3. Hit the club early

We know we mentioned pre-drinking earlier but bear with us on this one.

Sometimes, getting to your destination early can have all sorts of wondrous benefits, most of all escaping extortionate entry fees and dodging queues in the freezing cold. And you get to say it was your sick moves that started the party, yo.

Entry prices tend to go up at around 11pm and many strip clubs offer free or reduced entry before that time.

4. Set a party budget

it really is a good idea to set a limit on how much you are going to spend that night and stick to it. Sorry for sounding like your parents here. Lolzzzz

A good option to try is taking out your prepaid card with you, topped up with you spending money on it. Nowadays, these cards come with an app that will remind you throughout the night how much you’ve spent at the bar and how close you are to hitting your maximum (and so when it’s time to hit the road please do).

5. Ditch the credit cards

Ever looked at your bank balance the morning after and had the shock of your life? Taking your debit or credit card out with you is never a good idea as it’s so easy to lose track of how much you’ve spent (as mentioned above, this is where your prepaid card comes in handy. Do yourself a favor and leave the credit cards at home, we promise they won’t get lonely.
